A Prayer for Single Parents
For those parenting alone — double portions of strength, provision, and grace.
Single parents do the work of two on the sleep of half. This prayer is for them — and for you, if the whole weight of a household rests on your shoulders.
The prayer
Father, I am doing this alone — except I am not, because you are here. Be the other pair of hands in this house.
Give me strength for the double load: the earning and the nurturing, the discipline and the comfort, the being everything to everyone. As my days, so let my strength be.
Provide where one income stretches thin. Send the help I am too tired to ask for, and the friends who notice without being told.
Cover what I cannot give my children, out of your own fatherhood. Gently lead me — you promised that to those with young — and let this house be proof that you keep your word. Amen.
He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.
