Nothing empties a parent quite like a sick child. This prayer is for the bedside, the waiting room, the long night — bring your little one to the God who welcomed children gladly.
The prayer
Father, my child is unwell, and my heart is small with worry. I lift them into your arms — the same arms that gathered children and blessed them.
Bring healing to this little body. Guide the doctors and nurses, steady their hands, sharpen their wisdom. Let every treatment do its work and every night bring rest.
Comfort my child in the frightening moments, and give me calm to be their calm. Quiet my racing thoughts; help me trust you with the one I would give anything to protect.
You love this child even more than I do. Into your good hands I place them, and there I will try to leave them. Heal, and hold us both. Amen.
But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.
