Fear keeps many of us quiet when we should speak. This prayer is for holy boldness — the courage the early church prayed for, to act and speak for God without shrinking.
The prayer
Father, I am too easily silenced — by fear of what people think, by the risk of getting it wrong. Give me the boldness the first disciples prayed for.
Loosen my tongue to speak of you when the moment comes, with grace and without apology. Steady my nerve to do the right thing when it costs me.
You have not given me a spirit of fear, but of power and love and a sound mind. Let that be true in me today, in the very conversation I am dreading.
Make me brave, not brash; bold, not proud. And when I have spoken or acted, let the results rest with you. Grant your servant boldness, Lord. Amen.
And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word,
Grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word — courage is a thing you can ask for, and he gives it.
