A Prayer for My Marriage

A prayer for warmth, forgiveness, and a third strand in the cord — for any season of marriage.

Every marriage has seasons — some golden, some gritted-teeth. This prayer is for both, and for the God who holds two people together when their own grip slips.

The prayer

Father, we did not build this marriage alone, and we cannot keep it alone. Come and be the third strand in our cord.

Where we have grown careless with each other, make us attentive again. Where words have wounded, bring honest apology and real forgiveness — quickly, before the sun goes down.

Give us back our laughter. Give us patience in the ordinary days and loyalty in the hard ones. Let neither of us keep score.

Bind us to each other by binding us both to you, so that what you have joined together, nothing manages to put asunder. Amen.

And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.
Ecclesiastes 4:12, KJV

A threefold cord is not quickly broken. Invite the third strand daily.
