A Prayer for Our Nation
For the country and its leaders — righteousness, peace, and healed divisions.
Scripture commands prayer for nations and their leaders — all of them, of every party. This prayer is for your country, prayed better than argued.
The prayer
Father, we bring you our nation — its leaders, its people, its noise, and its need. You remain sovereign over all of it.
Give wisdom to those who govern, whether or not we chose them; incline their hearts toward justice, honesty, and the good of the weak.
Heal our divisions. Where we have learned contempt for one another, teach us again to be neighbours. Begin the humbling and the praying with me.
If my people, you said, shall humble themselves and pray — then hear from heaven, forgive our sin, and heal our land. Amen.
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
Pray for kings, and for all that are in authority — that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life. The instruction has no election-year exceptions.
