A Prayer for Pastors
For shepherds of the flock — strength, protection, and joy in the calling.
Pastors carry what few see: the sermon and the 2 a.m. phone call, the criticism and the confidences. This prayer is for yours — pray it with their name in it.
The prayer
Father, thank you for my pastor — for every sermon laboured over, every hospital visit, every prayer said over this flock in secret.
Feed the one who feeds us. Give them unhurried time in your word for their own soul, not just for Sunday.
Guard them from discouragement and from the loneliness of leadership. Protect their family, their health, and their joy. Let criticism be seasoning, never poison.
Make our church easy to shepherd — quick to encourage, slow to grumble, generous in every way. And when the Chief Shepherd appears, let our pastor receive the crown of glory that fadeth not away. Amen.
Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;
