How we begin the morning shapes the whole day. This is a short prayer to pray before the emails and the errands — a way of handing the day over before it starts.
The prayer
Father, thank you for this new morning, and for mercies that are new with it. Before anything else claims me, I turn to you.
Go before me into this day. Order the hours I cannot control. Give me grace for the people I'll meet and wisdom for the work in front of me.
Keep me mindful of you in the middle of it all — not just now, in the quiet, but at noon and in the rush and at the end of the day.
This is the day you have made. Help me to walk through it with you. Amen.
This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.
A morning prayer doesn't need to be long to change the shape of a day. Even a few sentences, offered honestly, set your heart facing the right way.
