Praise turns the gaze away from ourselves and toward God — and the heart is lighter for it. This prayer is simply to worship him, not for what he gives, but for who he is.
The prayer
Father, before I ask you for anything, I want to praise you — great are you, LORD, and greatly to be praised.
I praise you for your goodness that never runs out, your mercy that is new every morning, your power that made the stars and your tenderness that counts my tears.
You are holy, faithful, and kind. You were before all things and will outlast all things, and you have set your love on me. It is more than I can take in.
Let my whole life be praise — not just my words, but my days. You are worthy, Lord, of far more than I can give. Receive my worship. Amen.
Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable.
Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised — praise lifts the heart out of its own small orbit and into something larger and truer.
