A Prayer for the Homeless
For those without a home — provision, dignity, and hearts moved to help.
It is easy to walk past need until it becomes a face. This prayer is for those without a home — and for softening our own hearts to see them and to act.
The prayer
Father, tonight many have no door to close and no bed to call their own. I bring them before you, each one known and loved by name.
Provide for them — shelter from the cold, food for the day, and safety through the night. Send help that restores dignity, not just gets them out of sight.
Guard them from despair, and let them know they are not forgotten by you, whatever the world's indifference.
And move me. Do not let me look away. Show me the one I can help this week, and give me the courage to do it. What I give to the least, I give to you. Amen.
He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.
He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD — pray for the homeless, then let the prayer move your hands and your wallet.
