A Prayer for My Church
For the local congregation — unity, warmth, and a light that reaches the neighbourhood.
The church is people, not premises — which is why it needs prayer more than paint. This is a prayer for your congregation, whatever its size.
The prayer
Father, thank you for my church — for the people you have gathered, ordinary and beloved, into one family.
Make us one. Guard us from the quarrels that shrink churches and the cliques that chill them; give us instead the good and pleasant unity the psalm sings about.
Make us warm to the newcomer, gentle with the struggling, honest in our worship, and hungry for your word.
And do not let us keep the light indoors. Send us into our neighbourhood with kindness that asks nothing back — until the town knows where love lives. Amen.
Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!
Behold, how good and how pleasant — churches become what their members pray them into. Keep praying.
