A Prayer to Overcome Temptation
For the moment of testing — the way of escape, and strength to take it.
Temptation is loudest in the moment. This prayer is for that moment — a cry for the way of escape God promises, and the strength to actually take it.
The prayer
Father, the pull is strong right now, and my resolve is weak. I need you before I give in, not after. Help me now.
You promised no temptation without a way of escape. Show me the way out, and give me the will to take it, even when part of me does not want to.
Remind me what this really delivers — never the freedom it promises, only the chains. Set the truth before me clearly enough to break the spell.
Deliver me from evil, as I have prayed so often. Strengthen me by your Spirit, and let me walk away clean. Thank you that with you, victory is possible. Amen.
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
