A Prayer for My Children
A parent's prayer of blessing, protection, and faith over the children God has given.
Nothing drives a parent to prayer like love that outruns control. You cannot follow your children into every room of their lives — but God can, and does. Pray this over them by name.
The prayer
Father, thank you for my children — for every one of them, exactly as you made them. Before they were mine, they were yours.
Watch over them today where I cannot: on the way to school, among their friends, in the quiet of their own thoughts. Keep their bodies safe and their hearts soft.
Teach them to know you early. Let your word take root in them, and let them see enough of your love in me that they want it for themselves.
And when they wander — as I have wandered — go after them, Good Shepherd, and bring them home. I place them in your hands, which are better than mine. Amen.
And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD; and great shall be the peace of thy children.
Great shall be the peace of thy children, the promise says. Keep praying it — no prayer over a child is ever wasted.
