Pride is subtle and self-flattering; humility must be prayed for. This prayer is for a lowly, teachable heart — the kind of heart that grace can fill.
The prayer
Father, pride runs deeper in me than I like to admit — quick to defend myself, slow to admit fault, always angling to be seen. Forgive me, and change me.
Give me the mind of Christ, who did not grasp at status but took the low place and the servant's towel. Let that mind be in me.
Help me to esteem others better than myself, to listen more than I speak, and to say sorry without excuses. Make me easy to correct and quick to give others the credit.
You give grace to the humble; make me humble enough to receive it. Keep me low, Lord, where the grace is. Amen.
Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus — humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less.
