When someone we love is grieving, we long to help and rarely know how. This prayer is one to lift on their behalf — for the friend, relative, or neighbour walking through loss.
The prayer
Father, I bring before you someone who is grieving, and I ask you to be near them in a way I cannot.
Comfort them as only you can. Meet them in the waves that come without warning, and in the long, flat, ordinary ache between them.
Give them patience with their own grief — no timetable, no pressure to be fine. Surround them with people who show up and stay, and let me be one of them.
Hold their hope steady when it flickers, and let them glimpse the day when you wipe every tear away. Blessed are they that mourn, you said, for they shall be comforted. Comfort them now. Amen.
Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted — sometimes the best help is simply to keep praying, and to keep showing up.
