A Prayer for Loneliness

For the ache of feeling unseen — a prayer to the God who sets the solitary in families.

Loneliness can find you in an empty flat or a full room. This prayer names it honestly, before the God who has promised never to leave.

The prayer

Father, I am lonely. It is a hard thing to say, even to you — but you knew before I said it.

Thank you that your presence is not a figure of speech. You are here, in this room, closer than the silence.

You set the solitary in families. Lead me toward real companionship — and make me brave enough to take the small steps it requires: the invitation, the yes, the church door.

Until then, be my daily company. Let me learn what so many lonely saints have learned — that you are actually enough for an evening, and then another. Amen.

God setteth the solitary in families: he bringeth out those which are bound with chains: but the rebellious dwell in a dry land.
Psalm 68:6, KJV

God setteth the solitary in families — pray it, and watch for the family he may be setting you in.
