A Prayer for Retirement
For the end of working years and the start of a new calling — fruit in the next season.
Retirement closes a long chapter and opens an unwritten one. This prayer is for that threshold — gratitude behind, purpose ahead.
The prayer
Father, thank you for the working years — for the strength you supplied, the provision that never failed, the people along the way.
I give you this new season. Save me from drifting; you retire your servants from jobs, never from callings.
Show me the work that is mine now — the grandchildren, the serving, the praying, the encouraging that a freer calendar makes possible. Let me still bring forth fruit in this age.
Keep my body strong enough, my mind curious, and my heart young toward you. The best chapter is the one where I know you best — let this be it. Amen.
They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing;
They shall still bring forth fruit in old age — the promise stands. The vocation continues; only the schedule changed.
