A Prayer Before an Exam or Interview
A short prayer for the nervous hour before you are tested.
Before the exam hall or the interview chair, when your stomach is rehearsing disasters — pray this, breathe slowly, and go in accompanied.
The prayer
Father, you have not given me a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. I claim the sound mind now.
Bring to my remembrance everything I have prepared. Clear the fog of nerves; let me think straight and speak honestly.
Give me favour with those who assess me — and give me peace about what I cannot control, which is most of it.
Whatever the result, my future is in kinder hands than an examiner's. Do your will with this door, and keep me trusting on either side of it. Amen.
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
A sound mind is the promise. Take three slow breaths on the threshold and hold that phrase.
