A Prayer for My Neighbours
For those next door and down the street — blessing, and eyes to love them.
Jesus tied love of God to love of neighbour — the literal ones next door included. This prayer is for the people around your home, and for a heart that notices them.
The prayer
Father, thank you for the neighbours you have placed around me — the ones I know well, the ones I only wave to, and the ones I have never met.
Bless each home on my street. Watch over the families, comfort the lonely behind quiet doors, and provide for those who are struggling out of sight.
Give me eyes to notice need close to home, and the courage to be a good neighbour — to help, to welcome, to go and knock.
Let me love my neighbour as myself, not as an idea but as these actual people. Make my corner of the world a little kinder because I am in it. Amen.
And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.
Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself — love begins with the people nearest, the ones easiest to overlook. Pray for them by name.
