A Prayer for More Faith
Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief — the honest prayer for a mixed heart.
The most honest prayer in the Gospels came from a desperate father: Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief. Faith and doubt in one sentence — and Jesus answered it.
The prayer
Lord, I believe — and I carry unbelief in the same heart. I bring you both, since you already see both.
Strengthen what is weak in my faith. Feed it on your word, remind it of your record, and let it grow by using it.
When I cannot feel your presence, let me trust your promises, which do not fluctuate with my feelings.
Author and finisher of my faith — finish what you started in me. I am not asking for a feeling; I am asking for you. Amen.
And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.
Jesus healed the son of the man who prayed this mixed prayer. Bring him your mixture; he works with it.
