A Prayer for Contentment
For a satisfied heart — learning to be content whatever the circumstances.
Contentment is not having everything, but wanting what you have. This prayer is for a satisfied heart in a world built to keep us restless.
The prayer
Father, I am surrounded by messages telling me I do not have enough and am not enough. I am tired of the restlessness. Teach me contentment.
Paul learned to be content in plenty and in want; teach me the same secret — that you are enough, in every state, and that godliness with contentment is great gain.
Free me from comparison and the endless wanting. Open my eyes to the mercies already in my hands, and let gratitude do its quiet, freeing work.
Let my contentment rest not in circumstances, which change, but in you, who do not. You are my portion, and you are more than enough. Amen.
Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.
I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content — contentment is learned, not lucked into. Start with thanks.
