The prayer
Father, my heart is broken, and I will not pretend otherwise with you. You see the exact shape of the crack.
You promise to be near the broken-hearted — so be near now. Nearer than the ache, nearer than the memories, nearer than the fear of the future.
Bind up this wound the way only you can: slowly, gently, without shame at how long it takes.
I give you the pieces. You have made whole things from shards before. Do it again, in me. Amen.
The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.
