The mind can grow as sick and tired as the body, and it is no less worthy of prayer. This prayer is for the heavy days — pray it for yourself or someone you love, and take the human help too.
The prayer
Father, my mind is weary and my heart is low. I do not always have words, so I bring you the ache and the silence beneath it.
You are near to the broken; be near to me now. Quiet the thoughts that circle and accuse. Lift, even a little, the weight I have carried so long.
When my own soul asks why it is cast down, help me answer with hope in you — not because I feel it, but because you are faithful when feelings fail.
Give me courage to reach for help — the friend, the doctor, the counsellor you have provided. Meet me in the small mercies of this day, and hold me until morning. Amen.
Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.
Why art thou cast down, O my soul?... hope thou in God — the psalmist preached to himself, and so may you. And reaching for help is faith, not failure.
