A Prayer for Strength

A prayer for when you are worn out and running on empty, and need strength that isn't your own.

This is a prayer for the end of your own resources — for the day when you have nothing left and still have to keep going.

The prayer

Father, I am tired in a way that sleep doesn't reach. I have given what I had, and it wasn't enough, and I don't know how to carry on in my own strength.

So I stop trying to. I ask you for strength that is yours, not mine — the kind that holds up the weak and carries the weary.

Renew me as only you can. Lift what is too heavy. Walk with me through what I cannot avoid, and let me lean my full weight on you.

Be my strength today, Lord, and my song. I will wait on you, and trust you to hold me up. Amen.

But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
Isaiah 40:31, KJV

God's strength is not a reward for the strong; it is a gift to the empty-handed. If you have nothing left today, you are exactly the person this prayer is for.
