A Prayer of Thanksgiving
A prayer to give thanks to God — for his goodness, his gifts, and his steady faithfulness.
Gratitude has a way of steadying the heart. This is a simple prayer of thanks — for the obvious gifts and the quiet ones we so easily overlook.
The prayer
Father, thank you. For life and breath, for this day, for mercies I did not earn and often fail to notice — thank you.
Thank you for the people who love me, for the roof and the bread, for the small kindnesses that carried me through this week.
And thank you, most of all, for yourself — for your patience with me, your nearness, and a love that never runs out.
Make me a grateful person, Lord, not only in the good seasons but in every one. Every good gift comes from you. Amen.
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
A grateful heart sees the hard things clearly and still counts the mercies. The counting itself is a quiet kind of healing.
