The turn of the year invites reflection and hope in equal measure. This prayer is for the threshold — thankful for the year behind, trusting for the year ahead.
The prayer
Father, another year has closed and a new one opens. I stand at the threshold and give both to you — the one behind and the one ahead.
Thank you for carrying me through the year that is gone — its joys and its griefs, its answered prayers and its unanswered ones. You were faithful in all of it.
For the year ahead, I ask not for an easy road but for your presence on it. Do a new thing in me. Order my days, deepen my faith, and use me where you place me.
Whatever this year brings — and I cannot see it — let me meet it with you. Make me more like Jesus by the end of it than I am at the start. Amen.
Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.
Behold, I will do a new thing — the God who was faithful last year goes ahead into this one. Step in with him.
