A Prayer for Addiction Recovery
For the fight to get free — one day at a time, with a God who breaks chains.
Recovery is fought a day at a time, and prayed the same way. This prayer is for the fight — for you, or someone you love. Take the human help too; God works through it.
The prayer
Father, I am powerless over this on my own, and I am done pretending otherwise. I hand my life and this fight to you.
Whom the Son sets free is free indeed — I claim that freedom, today only, which is all I am asked to carry.
In the craving hour, be my way of escape. Put people around me who tell me the truth, and give me the humility to call them.
Restore what this has taken — trust, health, relationships, years. You are the God who repays the locust's damage. One day at a time, walk me home. Amen.
If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
Grace runs deeper than any habit. Pray this every morning it is needed — and let a counsellor, group, or pastor carry it with you; that is not weakness but wisdom.
