Colossians 3:23 Meaning
And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;
What does Colossians 3:23 mean?
Colossians 3:23 transforms ordinary work — however humble — by changing who we are working for. It was first written to servants, and it dignifies every task ever since.
“Whatsoever ye do, do it heartily.” Nothing is excluded — whatsoever. And it is to be done heartily, from the soul, with our whole selves, not grudgingly or half-heartedly.
“As to the Lord, and not unto men.” Here is the great reframe. Our real audience is not the boss, the customer, or the critics, but the Lord himself. Work done for him carries a weight and a dignity that human approval never could.
This lifts the drudgery out of unnoticed labour. The unseen task, the thankless job, the small duty — done as to the Lord, none of it is wasted. He sees, and for him it is worth doing well.
