What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? Romans 8:31 gathers up a long list of God's promises and turns it into a triumphant question.

The if is not a doubt but a settled fact — because of Christ, God is for us. He is on our side, working for our good, committed to us. That is the astonishing claim the whole chapter has been building toward.

And if that is true, the question answers itself: who can be against us — in any way that finally counts? Opposition is real, but no enemy, circumstance, or accusation can prevail against those God has chosen to be for. It is the confidence of the secure, not the arrogance of the untouchable.
