Joshua 24:15 Meaning

And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
Joshua 24:15, KJV

What does Joshua 24:15 mean?

Joshua 24:15 is an old leader's final challenge to his people. Near the end of his life, Joshua forces a choice that no one can avoid making — including us.

“Choose you this day whom ye will serve.” Joshua insists that neutrality is not an option. Everyone serves something. The only question is what — and he presses the people to decide deliberately, today, rather than drift.

“As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” Joshua does not wait to see which way the crowd leans. He declares his own allegiance first, and stakes his whole household on it. Leadership here means going first.

The verse has echoed through the centuries as a family and personal creed. It calls each of us to a conscious decision — not inherited habit or vague belief, but a chosen, settled commitment to serve the LORD.
