Romans 12:2 Meaning
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
What does Romans 12:2 mean?
Romans 12:2 describes how a changed life actually happens. It sets two forces against each other: conforming and transforming.
“Be not conformed to this world” pictures being pressed into a mould — quietly shaped by the values and habits around us until we look just like everything else. The alternative is to “be transformed,” a word that describes change from the inside out, not a fresh coat of paint.
The engine of that transformation is “the renewing of your mind.” What we think about, dwell on, and believe gradually reshapes who we become. As the mind is renewed — by Scripture, prayer, and truth — the whole life follows. And the payoff is discernment: we come to “prove,” or recognise in practice, what God's good and perfect will actually is.
Real change, this verse says, starts in the mind. Guard what shapes your thinking, and let God renew it — the rest of your life will follow where your mind leads.
