Ecclesiastes 3:11 Meaning — He Hath Made Everything Beautiful in His Time
He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.
What does Ecclesiastes 3:11 mean?
He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh. Ecclesiastes 3:11 follows the famous list of seasons — a time to be born, a time to die — with a reassurance.
Every thing beautiful in his time: even the hard seasons have a rightness God can bring out of them, though rarely on our schedule. The beauty is often only visible looking back, when we can finally see how a difficult chapter fitted the whole.
The verse also says God has set eternity (the world) in our hearts — a restlessness for something beyond time — while keeping the full picture beyond our grasp. We are made to long for meaning we cannot yet fully see. The call is to trust the Timekeeper: he is making something beautiful, in his time, not ours.
