Philippians 4:19 Meaning

But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:19, KJV

What does Philippians 4:19 mean?

Philippians 4:19 is a promise about provision, made by a man writing from prison to a church that had generously given to him. Paul assures them that what they gave away, God will more than replace.

“My God shall supply all your need.” The promise is comprehensive — all your need. Note it says need, not every want; God commits himself to what we truly require, and knows the difference better than we do.

“According to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” This is the measure of the supply. God gives not merely out of his riches but according to them — in proportion to an infinite wealth. A rich person may give a small gift; God gives in keeping with his glory.

The setting seals it. The Philippians had sacrificed to support Paul; this promise answers their generosity. God is no one's debtor — what we entrust to him and give in his name, he supplies back from riches that never run dry.
