Psalm 118:24 Meaning
This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.
What does Psalm 118:24 mean?
Psalm 118:24 has become a morning anthem for good reason. It reframes an ordinary day as a gift and calls for a deliberate response.
“This is the day which the LORD hath made.” Every day, however plain or hard, is something God made. It did not arrive by accident. Seeing the day as his handiwork changes how we hold it.
“We will rejoice and be glad in it.” Notice the resolve — “we will.” Rejoicing here is a decision, not merely a mood that happens to us. On days we do not feel it, we can still choose to look for God's goodness and give thanks.
In its original setting, this verse celebrates a great deliverance — “the day” of God's saving act. It teaches us to greet each new day as another gift from the same faithful God, and to meet it with gladness rather than dread.
