Ephesians 2:10 Meaning
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
What does Ephesians 2:10 mean?
Ephesians 2:10 comes right after Paul says we are saved by grace, not works. Having ruled works out as the cause of salvation, he now names them as its purpose — and calls us God's handiwork.
“We are his workmanship.” The word behind “workmanship” is one from which we get “poem” — we are God's craftsmanship, made deliberately and with care. We are not self-made; we are his work of art.
“Created in Christ Jesus unto good works.” Good works do not earn our salvation, but they are what we are remade for. Saved people are created for a life of good — it is the design, not the price.
“Which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” The good works are not random; God prepared them in advance for us to walk into. Your life has a path of good already laid out — purpose you step into, not manufacture.
