1 Corinthians 10:13 Meaning
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
What does 1 Corinthians 10:13 mean?
1 Corinthians 10:13 is a verse to hold onto when temptation feels overwhelming and defeat feels inevitable. Paul makes three promises that together dismantle that despair.
First, your temptation is not unique: it is “such as is common to man.” Whatever you face, others have faced and come through. The lie that no one could understand your struggle is just that — a lie.
Second, God sets a limit: he “will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able.” He is faithful, and he watches the weight, never allowing it past what — with him — you can bear. You are never as trapped as temptation claims.
Third, there is always a door: he will “make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” God does not merely cap the temptation; he provides an exit. Part of resisting is looking for the way out he has already made.
