Matthew 6:33 Meaning
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
What does Matthew 6:33 mean?
Matthew 6:33 comes at the end of Jesus' teaching on worry — about food, clothing, and the anxious scramble for security. His solution is not to care less, but to reorder what we care about most.
“Seek ye first the kingdom of God” means letting God's rule and God's priorities take the first place in your life — ahead of the endless chase for provision. “His righteousness” means caring most about being right with him and living his way.
The promise attached is striking: “all these things shall be added unto you.” Jesus is not promising wealth. He is promising that when God is genuinely first, the things we anxiously grasp for fall into their proper place, and our Father can be trusted to provide what we truly need.
This verse is an invitation to stop living from anxiety and start living from trust — to put first things first, and let God take care of the rest.
