Luke 6:38 Meaning — Give, and It Shall Be Given Unto You

Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. Luke 6:38 promises that generosity comes back around, and lavishly.

The imagery is of a merchant measuring grain — but instead of levelling it off, he presses it down, shakes it to settle, and heaps it until it overflows. This is generosity answered with overflowing generosity, a full measure and then some.

The verse ends with a principle: with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again. The way we treat others tends to return to us. This is not a technique for getting rich, but an invitation to live open-handed, trusting a generous God who gives back beyond what we give.
