Galatians 6:9 Meaning

And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
Galatians 6:9, KJV

What does Galatians 6:9 mean?

Galatians 6:9 speaks to the quiet exhaustion of doing good when nothing seems to come of it. Paul knows that discouragement, and answers it with a farmer's patience.

“Let us not be weary in well-doing.” The danger is not that we will do wrong, but that we will simply tire of doing right. Goodness sustained over years, without applause or visible reward, wears on the soul.

“For in due season we shall reap.” Paul borrows the logic of sowing and harvest. A farmer does not see fruit the day he plants; there is a season between seed and harvest. Our well-doing is seed, and the harvest is coming — in God's due season, not necessarily ours.

“If we faint not.” The one condition is perseverance. The harvest is promised to those who do not give up before it comes. When you are tired of doing good, this verse asks you to hold on a little longer — the season will turn.
