John 14:6 Meaning
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
What does John 14:6 mean?
John 14:6 records one of the most famous and far-reaching things Jesus ever said. His disciples were troubled and confused about where he was going; in response, he pointed not to a map but to himself.
“I am the way” — Jesus is not merely a teacher who shows the way; he is the road itself. “The truth” — not just true things, but truth in person. “The life” — the source of the life that really is life. Each claim gathers up something people spend their whole lives searching for.
Then comes the line many find bracing: “no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” It is an exclusive claim, but it is spoken as an open door rather than a closed gate — the promise that there is a sure way to God, and that Jesus is it.
This verse invites a personal response. Jesus does not offer directions to God from a distance; he offers himself as the way home.
