Ephesians 6:10-11 Meaning
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
What does Ephesians 6:10–11 mean?
Ephesians 6:10-11 opens Paul's famous passage on spiritual armour. Before he lists a single piece, he tells us where the strength comes from and why we need it.
“Be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.” The strength is not our own grit but the Lord's power lent to us. Paul does not say “be strong”; he says be strong in the Lord — plugged into a might far greater than ours.
“Put on the whole armour of God.” Armour is God's provision, but we must put it on. There is a partnership: God supplies the protection; we take the deliberate step of dressing in it. And it is the whole armour — no piece is optional.
“That ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” The goal is to stand — to hold our ground against real spiritual opposition that works by cunning, not just force. This verse takes our struggles seriously and arms us for them, in God's strength.
