Exodus 14:14 Meaning
The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.
What does Exodus 14:14 mean?
Exodus 14:14 was spoken at the edge of the Red Sea, with Pharaoh's army closing in and nowhere to run. Into that panic Moses speaks a promise that has steadied God's people ever since.
“The LORD shall fight for you.” The battle belongs to God. Israel had no weapons, no strategy, no escape — and they needed none, because the fighting was not theirs to do. God would act on their behalf.
“And ye shall hold your peace.” Their assignment was almost unbearable: to stop, to be still, to stand and watch. Sometimes the hardest act of faith is not doing more but ceasing to strive and trusting God to move.
The verse holds a lasting pattern. There are battles we are called to fight, and battles we are called to hand over — standing still, holding our peace, and letting the LORD fight for us.
